'Swords' Whiting leads all divisions in assists
Chaminade senior guard Zack Whiting leads the nation in assists regardless of division heading into tonight's NCAA Division II Pacific West Conference men's basketball game with Brigham Young-Hawaii.
Whiting is averaging 12.4 assists per game for the 9-5 Silverswords. He is also leading the PacWest in scoring with 18.8 points per game and has had five triple-doubles this season.
Tonight's game is at 7:30 at McCabe Gym. The Seasiders are undefeated in the conference at 3-0 while the Silverswords started their slate 1-1 with a split at home against UH-Hilo.
Weber gets highest-ever ranking for 'Bows
Hawaii begins its spring men's tennis season at No. 68 in the first FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings and freshman Andreas Weber is No. 37 -- the highest singles ranking in UH history.
The Rainbow Warriors, 0-1 after falling to No. 2 Baylor last week, host Division III No. 4 Gustavus Adolphus Feb. 3 at the UH Tennis Complex.
Amateur boxing set for Jan. 20 at Palolo
USA Boxing, Palolo Boxing Club and Kawano Boxing will present Hawaii's First 2007 Match-Event Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Palolo District Park. Up to 10 bouts will be on the bill, with boxers from Oahu, Maui and Kauai. The feature is scheduled to be 2006 Ringside World Novice Champion Ronnie Reams of Colorado Springs against undefeated Maui boxer Brandon Visher at 140 pounds.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 10-under.
