UH baseball holds celebration Jan. 15
The University of Hawaii baseball team holds its Grand Slam Celebration fundraiser Jan. 15 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The event, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., features live and silent auction items, music by Imua, and pupu, wine and beer tasting.
Tickets are $75 for individuals and $850 for tables. Each ticket purchased earns two tickets to the Georgia Southern game on Feb. 2.

Hawaii divers win title
Hawaii's Magnus Frick won the 3-meter springboard event and teammate Mats Wiktorsson finished first in the platform event on the final day of the Hawaii Diving Invitational at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Center.
Frick, who won the 1-meter springboard event earlier in the competition, broke the UH record on the 3-meter springboard with 382.50 points.
Hawaii's Raquel Bartlow took the women's platform event title.
Chaminade earns first PacWest win
Zack Whiting played an outstanding all-around game, finishing with 23 points, 14 assists and 8 rebounds to lead Chaminade (9-5, 1-1 PacWest) over Hawaii-Hilo 88-85 yesterday at McCabe Gym.
Travis Sobers scored 22 points and Sam Wilhoite added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Vulcans (4-10, 1-1 PacWest).
» BYU-Hawaii (11-4, 3-0 PacWest) rode the hot-hand of freshman Lucas Alvas, who poured in 27 points on 12-for-15 shooting, in a 79-73 victory over Grand Canyon last night in Laie.
The Seasiders shot 70.6 percent from the field in the second half to pull away from a 39-39 halftime tie.
» Brittnee Fonnesbeck and Katherine Carlise each scored 20 points in Chaminade's 71-64 win over Hawaii-Hilo (2-7, 1-1 PacWest) at McCabe Gym.
Swords freshman Samantha Saito added 12 points to help Chaminade (2-8, 1-1 PacWest) to its first PacWest victory on the season.
» Five players scored in double digits for Grand Canyon in a 91-74 victory over the BYU-Hawaii women's basketball team last night in Laie.
The Seasiders (3-10, 1-2 PacWest) were led by Latoya Wily, who scored a game-high 23 points.
No. 4 Baylor shuts out Hawaii
Fourth-ranked Lars Poerschke defeated Hawaii's Sascha Heinemann 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position and nationally ranked Bear Matt Brown handled Hawaii's Jeff Fitch 6-3, 6-2 to lead Baylor over the Rainbow Warriors.
Baylor, a 2006 national semifinalist, won all three doubles matches.
Lopes to speak at QB Club tomorrow
Former Chaminade basketball coach Merv Lopes and former player and current Farrington head coach Allan Silva will speak at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon at the Pagoda Hotel.
The program will start at noon and is open to the general public.
Hawaii surfer falls short in Australia
Hawaii's Mason Ho lost in the semifinals of the Billabong ASP World Junior Championship this past week in North Narrabeen, Australia.
Ho defeated fellow Hawaii native Torrey Meister in the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Jordy Smith.
