Entries sought for art competition

The National Society of Arts and Letters is seeking entries for a local art competition of water media on paper. Contestants ages 18 and 29 may apply by Feb. 1.

The exhibition will be held in March at Lane Gallery in Honolulu Hale, and the Hawaii chapter's first-place winner will move onto a National Career Awards Competition in Tempe, Ariz., in May, where the top prize will be $10,000.

Looking for something inexpensive to read? The Friends of Pearl City Library is having a Sunday special on some of the library's used books through April 29.

Today the special is 25-cent paperbacks. Next week it's three-for-50-cents pocketbooks.
