Seahawks waive Kahuku alum Mili
With their wide-receiver corps depleted by injuries, the Seattle Seahawks needed to clear a roster spot to add a wideout for today's playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. The victim yesterday was tight end Itula Mili, a Kahuku alumnus, with rookie Ben Obomanu getting the call from the practice squad. Seattle waived Mili, a 1997 sixth-rounder who had 163 career receptions with 13 TDs with Seattle. He had 10 catches in 10 games this season, but missed time with injuries.
Frick wins at Hawaii Invitational
Hawaii diver Magnus Frick won the 1-meter springboard event at the Hawaii Diving Invitational yesterday, outscoring Brandon Watson of BYU by more than 66 points.
Frick's dives were worth 394.65 points while Watson scored 328.05. UH's Mats Wiktorsson finished third with 300.40. Dustin McElroy finished 20th for the Warriors out of 23 divers.
Anastasia Pozdniakova of Houston won the women's 3-meter event with 316.45 points, while teammate Ginni Van Katwijk finished second with 218.15. Angela Nelson of BYU took third with 278.15 points.
Hawaii's highest finisher was Emma Friesen in fourth with 275.60 points, just 2.55 out of third. Rocky Raquel Bartlow finished seventh for Hawaii, followed by Emily Hanson in 14th and Alyson Giometti in 16th.
The invitational concludes today at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
Hawaii surfers eliminated in Florida
Hawaii surfers John John Florence and Robert Wurlitzer failed to advance to the third round of the ASP O'Neill SI Pro in Florida yesterday.
Florence scored 7.87 points but finished behind Jordan Gaudet (9.77) and Rodrigo Lima (11.84). Wurlitzer fell a half point out of the top two, scoring seven points to Jeremy Sherwin's 7.5. Matt Shadbolt won the heat with a 10.83.
Hawaii will be represented in today's third round by Alex King, Wesley Larsen, Golden Depesa and Jeremy Sherwin.
