LEEWARD OAHU
Suspect, 19, arrested in probe of fatal fight
A 19-year-old Nanakuli man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder yesterday in the Oct. 9 death of an 18-year-old man.
Police said the death was a result of injuries the victim sustained in a fight in Nanakuli on July 22 sometime before midnight.
The victim had been taken to an area hospital, and died Oct. 9.
Through further investigation a possible suspect was identified, police said.
The suspect, who had been arrested yesterday over an unrelated incident, was questioned about the death. Police arrested him at 2:10 p.m. yesterday for investigation of second-degree murder.
Police would not release the victim's name, and the Medical Examiner's Office was unable to identify the victim last night.
HONOLULU
Driver dead after car leaves road, hits walls
A 73-year-old Honolulu man died after his car veered off the road in Nuuanu at 6:50 a.m. yesterday and hit three concrete walls in a residential area.
The Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Harry Kozuma of Honolulu.
Police said Kozuma might have suffered from a prior medical condition. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death.
Kozuma was driving on Luakini Street and approaching Jack Lane when he veered right off the roadway and smashed into and through a concrete-tile wall of a residential property, police said.
The white, four-door 2000 Honda Accord kept going, traveling through the yard, hitting another wall and carport, and exiting that property.
The car continued down a driveway into neighboring properties and hit another concrete wall and stopped, police said.
Kozuma was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in critical condition, and was pronounced dead at 8:06 a.m. yesterday.
Police said Kozuma was wearing his seat belt and that the car's air bags deployed.
Until an autopsy shows otherwise, police are classifying this as the year's first Oahu traffic fatality, compared with none this time last year.

Cleanup finished after grounding of vessel
Coast Guard personnel and environmental cleanup experts from Pacific Environmental Corp. have finished cleaning up oil and hazardous material from a fishing vessel that ran aground off Niihau.
The 44-foot fishing boat Wahine Kepaloa II ran aground Dec. 29 near the southeastern point of Niihau, the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard Pacific Strike Team supervised the cleanup of diesel water, propane, batteries, refrigerant and other hazardous materials.

The cause of the grounding is still under investigation.
