Audy Kimura helps Hawaii teenagers shoot into college

Most people around town know that Audy Kimura is an accomplished singer-musician who performs at Hy's. But he is also a consummate marksman and works with the National Rifle Association to raise funds for the education and training of Hawaii's high school shooters. Audy is particularly proud of Saint Louis grad Ryan Tanoue, who shot his way through Reno's Nevada University on a scholarship. [Mugshots] Ryan is a favorite to make the U.S. Olympic shooting team in 2008. He won the World Cup in Munich in 2005. Heather Horn and Simone Riford, two sharpshooters from Punahou, are on scholarships at Nevada U thanks to their shooting, as are Saint Louis grads Michael Tanoue and Eric Okamoto. Waiakea High's Steve Nozaki is at Ohio State on a shooting scholarship. Waimea High's Chris Aguilar and Sacred Hearts' Carolyn Horlye are on the shooting teams at the Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy, respectively. Audy's shooting mentor when he was a Punahou student was Richard S.H. Wong, former prez of Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. Wong's support prompted Audy to give back by helping young local shooters ...

FIRING ON: The Academy of Arts is the place to be next Saturday for the Starlight Ball. This year's theme is Indochine.
