Argonauts get first win at Seasiders' expense
Ashley Wilson came off the bench to score a game-high 30 points as Notre Dame de Namur won its first game of the season yesterday, defeating Brigham Young-Hawaii 64-59 in women's basketball in Laie.
Kayla Burningham scored 20 points and Latoya Wily added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Seasiders (3-9, 1-1 Pacific West).
» Sheila Azevedo scored 20 points and Amy Kaaiakamanu added 18 as Hawaii-Hilo defeated Chaminade 81-58 last night at McCabe Gym.
Ashley Kualii had seven assists for the Vulcans (2-6, 1-0 PacWest).
Katherine Carlisle led the Silverswords (1-8, 0-1) with 15 points.
» Paul Peterson led a balanced Seasiders attack with 12 points as the BYU-Hawaii men's basketball team defeated Notre Dame de Namur 85-65 last night in Laie.
Eleven different Seasiders scored to help offset a game-high 25 points by Ryan Cooper.
» Rashard Bilal scored 21 points and the Hawaii-Hilo men's basketball team overcame an 18-point halftime deficit to defeat Chaminade 81-79 last night in the PacWest opener for both teams at McCabe Gym.
Asuka, Anteaters defeat Spence, Lancers
Iolani product Brent Asuka had a match-high 16 digs to help top-ranked UC Irvine to a 30-24, 30-23, 27-30, 30-25 nonconference men's volleyball victory over Cal Baptist on Wednesday in Riverside, Calif.
The Anteaters' Asuka was the national freshman of the year last season in NCAA Division I-II.
Seabury Hall alumnus Corey Spence, a junior hitter, had seven kills and seven digs for the Lancers, the three-time defending NAIA champions. It was the first home loss for Cal Baptist in 25 matches.
NFL junior development camp on Oahu
Registration for next week's NFL Junior Player Development Football Camp is scheduled for tomorrow at two parks.
Signups are 10 a.m. until noon at Nanakuli Beach Park and 1-3 p.m. at Kalaeloa Park. The camp is Jan. 13 at a site to be determined.
The camp is free and open to players 12-14. Players receive an event jersey, a football and a travel bag upon completion of the camp.
