Burningham, Wily power Seasiders

Kayla Burningham scored 23 points and Latoya Wily added 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii to an 86-69 victory over Notre Dame de Namur last night in Laie.

Burningham also had two blocks and went 5-for-7 from beyond the arc for the Seasiders.

Grace Hartman scored 12 points to lead Notre Dame de Namur.

» Lucas Alves scored 14 points and Eric Boyce added 12 as the BYUH men's team defeated Notre Dame de Namur 71-62 at the Cannon Activities Center. The Seasiders improved to 9-4.

Kaneko to play in SBS Open qualifier

Sacred Hearts senior Ayaka Kaneko has been granted a sponsor's exemption to play in the LPGA's SBS Open qualifier on Feb. 12 at Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course.

She will be among those playing for a spot in the LPGA's first full-field tournament of the year, Feb. 15-17, at the Palmer Course.

Local athletes help volleyball team to title

Punahou's Sydney Yogi and Kamehameha's Kanani Herring helped the USA youth volleyball team to a tournament title in Slovenia with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-12 win over Croatia in the final last Saturday.

The tournament was part of the third annual BIP New Year's Bash, a European tour that will take the team to Slovenia, Austria and the Czech Republic.
