Search and rescue: Three boutiques try to make vintage and pre-owned fashions new again
CATHY REED had a successful business reselling vintage and secondhand apparel on eBay, so when her stock threatened to spill out of her storage room in the Wailana at Waikiki, she decided to make the leap from the Web to a brick-and-mortar store.
» The Blue Geisha is at 1860 Ala Moana Blvd., Suite 108, in the same building as Wailana Coffee House. Call 944-5025.

After four months her boutique is winning a steady clientele among visitors as well as kamaaina looking for a bit of Hawaiian nostalgia in the form of 1940s aloha shirts at $550 to $600, and Bete muus and other 1960s styles, some in original condition, some cut into minis to be worn over jeans or otherwise reworked to suit contemporary tastes.
In addition to offering her finds, Reed accepts some garments on consignment, so you'll find a few Chanel dresses and Versace suits for men in the mix, as well as jewelry and new purses.
She's currently in Los Angeles and you know she'll return with finds for her store, where items start at about $20.
