Whiting earns PacWest weekly honor
Zack Whiting, Chaminade's All-American candidate at point guard, earned PacWest Player of the Week honors for his play in two games last week.
Whiting averaged a triple-double (35 points, 12.5 assists and 10.5 rebounds) in wins over Indianapolis and SUNY New Paltz. He shot 84 percent from the field (21-for-25), hit all four of his 3-point shots and made 3.5 steals per game for the Silverswords.
It was his third such honor this year.
Saint Louis' Eastman at national combine
Ryan Eastman, a junior lineman for state football runner-up Saint Louis, is one of 500 underclassmen participating in this week's U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio.
The 5-foot-11, 245-pound Eastman is the only player from Hawaii in the combine, which features players from 40 states in skills testing at the Alamodome. The event, running tomorrow through Saturday, gives the nation's top underclassmen the opportunity to showcase their football skills and earn national recognition from recruiting experts and analysts.
