CNN apologizes to Obama
NEW YORK » CNN apologized yesterday for mistakenly promoting a story on the search for Osama bin Laden with the headline "Where's Obama?"
A spokesman for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama said the apology was accepted.
The blunder came Monday evening on Wolf Blitzer's news show "The Situation Room." Both Soledad O'Brien and Blitzer offered separate apologies during CNN's morning show yesterday.
CNN called it a "bad typographical error" by its graphics department.
"We want to apologize for that bad typo," Blitzer said. "We also want to apologize personally to Sen. Barack Obama. I'm going to be making a call to him later this morning to offer my personal apology."
Tommy Vieto, Obama's press secretary, said he appreciated the bloggers and activists who brought the error to light so quickly and helped make sure it was corrected.
"Though I'd note that the 's' and 'b' keys aren't all that close to each other, I assume it was just an unfortunate mistake, and don't think there was any truly malicious intent," Vieto said.

2 Kona men charged in robbery attempt
KAILUA-KONA » Big Island police arrested two men who allegedly used a baseball bat in a failed attempt to steal a PlayStation 3 from a man.
Police said the 26-year-old victim was carrying the video game player as he and his 16-year-old brother walked along Queen Kaahumanu Highway on Saturday morning.
Police said the attacker got out of a sport utility vehicle and hit the victim in the left arm with the bat and demanded the game, which retails for about $600. But the victim's brother took the bat from the assailant, who returned to the SUV and fled.
The victim was treated for arm pain but refused further treatment.
About 7 p.m. Saturday police arrested Jason Leau, 25, of Kona. Leau, who police say was the SUV driver, was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, first-degree terroristic threatening and second-degree assault. His bail was set at $7,000. On Sunday detectives arrested Walter Ah Mow IV, 23, also of Kona, and charged him with the same offenses. Police said he was the man who assaulted the victim. His bail was set at $14,000.
