Whiting notches triple-double in win

Zack Whiting, Chaminade's All-American candidate, dominated the University of Indianapolis with a triple-double in a 87-71 nonconference basketball win at McCabe Gym last night.

Whiting had 39 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists for the Silverswords (7-4), who led 49-34 at halftime and held Indianapolis at bay in the second half. He shot 10-for-12 from the field and attempted 21 free throws -- connecting on 17 of them.

Mike Green (11 points) and Marko Kolaric (10 points) also reached double figures for Chaminade.

DeAndre Brock led the Hounds (6-4) with 18 points, while Justin Barnard added 16 and Jordan Barnard 13.

Three Hawaii gymnasts going international

Gymnasts Matt Moniz, Spencer Dupio and Nani Vercruyssen were recently named to USA Gymnastics' 2007 International Junior National Team for double mini-trampoline.

Moniz is a 19-year-old freshman at Leeward Community College. Dupio is a 15-year-old sophomore and Vercruyssen a 14-year-old freshman at Roosevelt High School.

All three are U.S. Junior Olympics national champions, and will hope to qualify for the world championships in Quebec City, Canada, in November of next year by representing the U.S. in all international competitions throughout 2007.

Golf school at Ko Olina starting Jan. 10

Balance Point Golf Schools will conduct one- to five-day golf instruction sessions at Ko Olina Golf Course from Jan. 10 to April 9. The school will focus on swing fundamentals, the mental game of golf and short game instruction.
