A decade of contemporary art
First Hawaiian Center, a glorious 30-story building in downtown Honolulu, opened its doors in November 2006. With it opened The Contemporary Museum's downtown gallery.
Walter Dods, then-chairman and CEO of the bank, was a dedicated supporter of arts in Hawaii, and so the lobby of the center was dedicated as gallery space.
Curator Allison Wong, who has been with the gallery since its inception, has organized 75 exhibits featuring some 200 artists. "Tenth Anniversary Exhibition" includes pieces from those many shows and artists.
The Contemporary Museum at First Hawaiian Center is located at 999 Bishop St. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and to 6 p.m. Fridays. It is closed on banking holidays. Admission is free.
