The PBS series "Antiques Roadshow" begins the new year with episodes filmed in Hawaii. More Hawaii shows air at 8 p.m. Jan. 8 (focus on ukuleles) and 15 (a visit to Doris Duke's Shangri La). Each episode is rebroadcast on the following Sunday at noon.
CRIB NOTES
Keep your pet safe and calm during New Year celebrations
To ring in 2007 with pet safety in mind, the Hawaiian Humane Society offers the following tips:
» Make sure that your pets have identification or ensure that they are microchipped. More than 50 animals were reported missing Dec. 20 to Jan. 2 last year. Luckily, the organization has a 24-hour animal intake center, so if you lose your pet, call them at 946-2187 immediately.
» Resist taking pets along to fireworks displays; most pets don't enjoy it anyway.
» Don't leave your pet in the car, leaving them at risk to be stolen by thieves or exposure to heat exhaustion, even with windows partially rolled down
» Keep pets in a safe place indoors and remove any items that could he could destory. Leave a radio or television on as white noise to keep him company.
» Do not leave pets outside and unattended, even in a fenced yard. They may panic with all the ruckus, escape or become tangled in their chain and injured.
» Consult your vet before New Year's Eve for ways to help alleviate your pet's anxiety during firework's displays.
