Warriors stay at No. 4 in new poll
The Hawaii men's volleyball team was ranked No. 4 in yesterday's CSTV/AVCA Division I-II Coaches Top 15 poll yesterday.
The Warriors (23-5) also finished the 2006 season at No. 4.
NCAA runner-up UC Irvine was ranked first, receiving 11 first-place votes. The Anteaters were followed by Brigham Young, receiving three votes, and defending NCAA champion UCLA, which had the remaining two votes.
Hawaii opens the year with two matches against British Columbia, Jan. 3 and 5, at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Warriors begin the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season on the road at UC Irvine, Jan. 12 and 13.
Mackey is WAC's athlete of the week
Hawaii senior Nicole Mackey was named the WAC's swimming and diving athlete of the week yesterday, beating Liz Thompson of New Mexico State.
Mackey won both her events last week, capturing the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke against Northwestern Dec. 19.
Hawaii Pacific puts 2 on all-tournament team
Hawaii Pacific juniors Kamron Alborz and Ryan Walker were selected to the Hoop-N-Surf basketball all-tournament team yesterday.
The Sea Warriors went undefeated in the tournament, beating Arkansas-Monticello 84-75 on Thursday and Harding University 67-65 last night.
Alborz scored 35 points in the two games while Walker scored 24.
