Dr. Ming Chen, second from left, and Dr. Lawrence K.W. Tseu, center, were guests of honor Dec. 3 at the United Chinese Society of Hawaii installation banquet at Waikiki Lau Yee Chai. Chen, standing with his wife, Christina, was installed as president of the 122-year-old organization. Tseu was named UCS Model Citizen of the Year in recognition of his financial support of numerous charities and nonprofit organizations. Councilman Rod Tam, attending with his wife, Lynette, said after giving Tseu an unframed commemorative proclamation, "I'm sorry about not having it framed, but the city is having financial problems." Emma Veary and Jim Nabors relaxed backstage Saturday after the final evening performance of "A Merry Christmas with Friends & Nabors" at the Hawaii Theatre. Highlights included Nabors' rendition of "Adeste Fidelis," Veary's solo on "The First Noel," "Keiki Christmas" by the Nuuanu YWCA "Naborhood" Keiki, and three mesmerizing segments by Philip Huber and his marionettes. This was the 10th and final year for "Friends & Nabors," and a lot of people got misty Sunday during the closing show. CLICK FOR LARGE
