'Aha Punana Leo honors Don Ho

Don Ho, seated, was honored Friday as 'Aha Punana Leo presented "Ne'epapa I Ke O Mau" ("Moving Forward Together") in the Hawaii Ballroom at the Sheraton Waikiki. Ho received the Kamakia Award for his work as an ambassador for Hawaii, his commitment to Hawaiian culture and his longtime support of the organization. Joining Ho at his table were his wife, Haumea Hebenstreit, left, event co-chairs state Sen. Clayton Hee and Lynn Waters, and veteran entertainers Clay Naluai of the Surfers and Sam Kapu. Holunape -- Kekoa Kaluhiwa, left, Kama Hopkins and Kanai'a Nakamura -- proved a perfect choice for cocktail-hour entertainment. The trio's debut album, "He 'Olu," won two Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in May. Hopkins says the group will start work on its second album early next year. CLICK FOR LARGE
