'29 Down' scores screenwriting nomination
"Flight 29 Down," the Discovery Kids television show filmed in Hawaii, has been nominated for a Writers Guild of America award for best screenwriting in a children's show. Other nominees: Disney Channel's "Phil of the Future" and "That's So Raven," Nickelodeon's "Just for Kicks" and the "Reading Rainbow on PBS.
"Look at the company we're in," said executive producer Rann Watumull. "We're thrilled that we're included with such big name shows.
Our show is playing up there with the best of the best." Watumull also noted that the other shows have teams of writers, but "Flight 29 Down" has only one: DJ McHale, who also directs.
The 13-part series follows 10 kids stranded in Micronesia after a plane carrying them from Los Angeles to an eco-adventure camp crashes.
Nominations were announced Wednesday, with the awards to be issued on Feb. 11.
