Broken main affects Pearl condos

A broken 12-inch water main break at 98-775 Kaonohi St. cut off water to the Pearl Country Club and six townhouse complexes in the Pearlridge Estates area yesterday.

The Board of Water Supply also asked other residents to conserve water as the main was repaired. Repairs were expected to go into the night, but water service was restored at about 4 p.m., a board spokeswoman said. It is the second main break this month in the area. Another section a few blocks away ruptured Tuesday.

Isle boat suspected of fishing violations

The Coast Guard and the National Marine Fisheries Service are investigating a Honolulu-based fishing boat on the suspicion it was fishing illegally inside a longline-closed area north of Kauai, the Coast Guard reported in a news release last week.

Coast Guard personnel saw the fishing vessel Black Magic fishing inside the closed area over a period of a week, Coast Guard spokesman Michael DeNyse said.

The Coast Guard Cutter Ahi intercepted the Black Magic at sea as it was returning to Honolulu. A law enforcement team from the Ahi boarded the Black Magic and conducted an at-sea inspection of the vessel's log books, the Tuesday release said.

Coast Guard team members saw fish aboard the boat, but none was confiscated, DeNyse said.

Suspect flees after man robbed in car

Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob another man of his wallet and cell phone late Friday night in downtown Honolulu.

At about 11:15 p.m., the suspect, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, asked a 32-year-old man if he could use his cell phone, police said. The victim, who had been drinking and was sleeping it off in his parked car on Kukui Street, refused.

The suspect entered the back seat of the car and pointed what appeared to be a handgun and asked for the victim's wallet, phone and car keys.

The victim drove into the Zippy's parking lot while being hit by the suspect, who eventually jumped out of the car and fled. Police later found a replica BB handgun in the area.
