Progress requires action
This year, have you been moving closer to being organized instead of disorganized?
As I continue to recap this year's columns, I invite you to gauge your progress as evidenced by action you've taken.
1. On May 12, I shared the importance of identifying and eliminating personal energy drainers.
By eliminating those drainers, are you finding you have more time and energy to spend on activities and people that energize you?
2. On May 26 I wrote about the tendency of clutterholics to merely rearrange clutter instead of organizing it.
Are you getting rid of the un-neededs instead of just moving them around?
3. On June 9, I presented the "Rule of 3" as an aid to getting things done.
By identifying the 3 most important things you need to do first, does your To Do list seem more doable?
4. On June 23, I encouraged you to apply the "Rule of 3" to other areas in your life.
To clear a cluttered area, did you remove the three largest items and see the difference that simple action makes?
When driving home, do you identify the first three things you have to do upon arrival? Likewise, when driving to work -- do you ID the first three things you need to do when arriving at work?
5. On July 14, I shared the letter of a frustrated pack rat who craved freedom from clutter, and encouraged you to put your thoughts regarding a problem into writing.
By doing so, did it help to clarify your thoughts and goals? Did it foster action on your part?
6. On July 28, I wrote about people who are doers and not just hearers/readers, and the importance of promptly putting into action what has been learned.
What new ideas have you gained this year that you have put into practice?
7. On Aug. 25 I shared some insights about how some people get things done promptly while others don't.
One difference between the two, I observed, is that the latter unnecessarily inflate a task so that it becomes discouragingly large.
Have you been seeing minitasks for what they are, and getting them done? Are you enjoying the serenity that comes from not having so many loose ends?
If you've been taking action, good for you! I'm sure you've seen a difference in the state of organization in your life. And in your sense of accomplishment too!
See you in two weeks!
