Funeral for officer will disrupt traffic
The Honolulu Police Department is advising motorists about possible traffic delays because of a funeral service and motorcade procession that will be held for the late officer Steve Favela tomorrow.
Favela, an eight-year veteran with the Honolulu Police Department, died at the Queen's Medical Center on Nov. 26 from severe injuries he sustained while escorting President Bush at Hickam Air Force Base five days earlier.
The funeral service will be held at Borthwick Mortuary.
From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Maunakea Street between Vineyard Boulevard and Kukui Street will be partially closed and street parking will be restricted.
About 2:10 p.m., the funeral procession is expected to leave Borthwick Mortuary, drive past the HPD headquarters on South Beretania Street and conclude at Mililani Memorial Park in Waipio.
The public is invited to join HPD employees for a final farewell and salute to Favela as the procession passes the police headquarters about 2:15 p.m.
Motorists are advised to expect delays along the funeral route. When the procession leaves Borthwick Mortuary, the motorcade will travel from Maunakea Street to Vineyard Boulevard. The procession will continue onto Punchbowl Street, King Street, Victoria Street and to South Beretania Street to drive pass the police headquarters.
The motorcade will then travel to Punchbowl Street and onto the H-1 freeway to Mililani Memorial Park.
