'Cinderella' opens at diamond head theatre
FOUR STARS:
JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COM
Daniel James Kunkel, left, celebrated at Buca de Beppo on Friday with Viet Vo, Ashley Ingersoll and Sean James at the opening-night cast party for Diamond Head Theatre's "Cinderella." Ingersoll brings a strong voice and appealing stage presence to her winning performance in the title role opposite Jones as the Prince. Kunkel distinguishes himself as the King and Vo has several good comic moments as the royal Herald. Crisply paced and newly choreographed, "Cinderella" is a best bet for family entertainment this season. CLICK FOR LARGE

"NO CAN!"
JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COM
Cast member Sandra W. Lee talked with musical director Emmett G. Yoshioka. Lee gets a big laugh in a scene where the prince tries to force the glass slipper on her foot (she plays a cute hula dancer). She finally grabs her own rubber slipper back and tells him. "No can!" CLICK FOR LARGE

MEN OF THE HOUR:
JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COM
Director Greg Zane, second from left, and choreographer Timothy Albrecht, third from left, talked with Nelson Cheung, left, and his son, Bryce, in the sponsors' tent during intermission. Zane has added a few surprises to the well-known Rodgers & Hammerstein musical -- and they all work. Albrecht's choreography is a delight as well; his dancing pumpkins and the quick comic bits in the big ballroom scene are particularly noteworthy. CLICK FOR LARGE
