Tripler test may sound like Gunfire
Tripler Army Medical Center is alerting nearby residents not to worry if they hear gunfire tomorrow night. The medical center will conduct a "Combat Medic Advanced Skills Training" course near the center's Physical Fitness Field that will include M-16 and artillery air-simulated fire. The training will not include live or blank rounds. "The devices used to simulate the sound of fire utilize compressed air and propane," according to a Tripler news release. The training is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m.
Mild aftershock felt on Maui and Big Isle
HILO » Maui and parts of the Big Island got a mild jolt at 2:22 a.m. Sunday from an aftershock of the Oct. 15 earthquakes, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said.
The magnitude 4.6 earthquake was located about 7 miles offshore from the Waikoloa Resort in West Hawaii at a depth of 9 miles.
The location is close to the site of the magnitude 6.7 "Kiholo" quake that shook much of the state on Oct. 15.
With a second, 6.0 quake, it caused $200 million in damage.
The maximum intensity of Sunday's quake -- how strongly it was felt -- was no more than "light" in nearby West Hawaii areas, and no damage was reported, according to the observatory.
Since Oct. 15, nearly 170 aftershocks have been felt, the observatory said, adding that aftershocks are expected to continue for a year.

Residents asked to conserve water in Pearlridge
The Board of Water Supply is asking residents in the Pearlridge area to conserve water following the break of a 12-inch main today.
The break occurred in the 98-600 block of Kaonohi St., partly draining a reservoir that serves the area, board spokeswoman Su Shin said. The break is affecting everyone above Pearl Country Club. The board did not know how long it would take to fix the break and refill the reservoir, and is asking area residents to conserve water.

2 teachers accused of smoking drugs in car
Police arrested two Mililani Middle School teachers for smoking drugs in a vehicle.
A witness saw the two, a man, 32, and a woman, 36, sitting at the Mililani Park and Ride, located at 95-1140 Lehiwa Drive, allegedly smoking what appeared to be drugs, police said.
The witness then followed the two to the school and reported the incident to the school administration.
The witness identified the suspects, and police were called and the two were arrested on suspicion of third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs.
Police brought them to the Wahiawa Police Station, where they were booked at about 12:15 p.m. The teachers each posted $50 bail and were released.
They are scheduled to appear in Wahiawa District Court 9 a.m. Dec. 26.
Man pleads not guilty in stepfather's killing
The stepson of a murdered man, whose body was found after a Nov. 16 Ewa Beach house fire, pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges of second-degree murder and first-degree arson.
Timothy Adarna, 19, made his plea in a District Court proceeding held at the main police station cellblock, a police spokeswoman said.
His initial appearance was held with a judge and attorneys present at the cellblock since the courthouse elevators were shut down, a spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office said.
Adarna is being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Police saw specks of paint on Adarna when they interviewed him Nov. 17, matching the white paint that appeared to be poured on the body of his stepfather, Robert Ramos.
Ramos was fatally stabbed.
Police said Adarna was seen a few blocks from their house with his bicycle after the fire. Police recovered from a trash can near that location the following discarded items: a bloody knife, clothes stained with blood and paint, and a receipt with Adarna's name on it contained inside a backpack.
