Local hospital will gain from charity of fans
If you're a fan of anime and manga, chances are you're also a fan of video games. Fellow columnist Wilma J. and I certainly are.
It's in that crossover spirit that Wilma wanted me to point out that Child's Play, the annual benefit hosted by the creators of the online comic "Penny Arcade," has returned for another year of helping children's hospitals around the world get needed books, video games and DVDs. Among the beneficiaries: the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children.
"Kapiolani has a healthy setup for game consoles, but is lacking a good game selection," a blurb on the hospital's Child's Play wish list, posted at Amazon.com, states. "They've asked us to concentrate on expanding their game and movie libraries. Most of these items were requested by the children at Kapiolani themselves!"
To participate, donors simply pick a few of the items requested, buy them on Amazon.com and have them sent to the hospital.
For more information, visit childsplaycharity.org. While you're there, click on the game controller icon hovering over Hawaii, and you'll be taken directly to Kapiolani's wish list. There were 152 items listed at press time, so surely you could find something for them ...

In Sunday's 'D&Q'
It's a blend of "old school" and modern cool in the Sunday Today section as I take a look at two anime series featuring heroes who could give Santa Claus a run for his money in the wish-fulfillment department: "City Hunter" and "Get Backers" ...
Cel Shaded, a look at the world of Japanese anime and manga, appears every Monday. Reach
