Philippine group brings ethnic dances
Bayanihan, the National Dance Company of the Philippines, brings the colorful costumes and dances of the island nation to the Blaisdell Concert Hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Since 1958, the company has represented the Philippines on international stages, dedicated to preserving indigenous forms of music, dance, costumes and folklore, with repertories suited to the demands of contemporary theater.
Tickets are $15, $25 and $40, available at the Blaisdell box office or through www.ticketmaster.com.

Celebrate Japanese new year traditions
Mililani's Honbushin International Center presents its 21st Mochitsuki Festival, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Events will include mochi-making, from pounding to shaping, and games played in Japan for the New Year.

Dinner event honors Ho's contributions
Entertainer Do Ho will be honored at 'Aha Punana Leo's fourth annual dinner celebration on Dec. 15 at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Ho will be recognized as the 2006 Ne'epapa I ke O Mau (Moving Forward Together) honoree for his decades promoting island culture as an entertainer.
The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.

BENEFIT EVENT
Concert supports relief work
"The Gift of Hope," a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, features two Moanalua High School music ensembles -- the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra, with violin soloist Heather Shohet.
The concert, to be held at Farrington High School, is sponsored by New Hope Christian Fellowship to benefit relief work in Asia. The program includes holiday tunes and a sophisticated repertoire of classical music, with Shohet performing two movements of Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons."
