Na Leo Pilimehana -- Nalani Choy, Lehua Kalima Heine and Angela Morales -- have been singing together since high school at Kamehameha Schools. Their moving voices and divine harmonies offer the perfect interpretation for all varieties of festive music -- traditional English carols, pop hits and contemporary Hawaiian holiday music.
"Christmas Pops" includes the full Pops orchestra -- fun-loving musicians of the Honolulu Symphony who will entertain and amuse (watch out for some merry special effects). We'll be joined by more than 120 ladies and gents from the Honolulu Symphony Chorus, who can sing carols like nobody's business!
Don't forget that this concert is an opportunity to hear holiday songs performed as the composers intended -- in full, "big-band" style. We'll bring to life your favorite holiday songs from the silver screen, such as "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," immortalized by Judy Garland in "Meet Me In St. Louis." You can also listen for a fun version of Betty Garrett and Red Skelton's hit, "Baby It's Cold Outside," from "Neptune's Daughter." From Hawaiian hits such as "Sophisticated Hula" and "Hawaiian Lullaby" to seasonal classics such as "O Holy Night" and "Ave Maria," our show is a cup of holiday cheer that overflows each year.
two special events take part during "Christmas Pops":
» The musicians and staff of the symphony will hold their third annual Holiday Food Drive for the Hawaii Foodbank. Concertgoers are welcome to bring nonperishable food items to the concert hall and leave them under a Christmas tree in the lobby.
» Also, please join us in supporting the U.S. Marine Corps' annual Toys for Tots collection by purchasing a new toy for a needy child. Marines will be in the lobby to collect your gifts.
We warmly invite you to join us this year. This relaxing, joyful concert will lift your spirits and relieve some of the tension of the holidays. Skip the traffic and the mall, and indulge in festive music! It's remarkable how two hours with the Pops can totally change your mood. Even the "Grinchiest" will be whistling a Christmas carol by the time we're through.
