Barnwell rises
Barnwell Industries Inc. gained 4.3 percent this week to close at $22.73 and lead the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin stock index. However, the stock of the Honolulu-based natural gas and oil exploration company is still down 9.4 percent for the year.
The issue was followed closely this week by Hoku Scientific Inc., which gained 4.2 percent to close at $3.21.
Trailing the index this week were Hawaiian Airlines' parent company, Hawaiian Holdings Inc., and Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc.
The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
