Honolulu City Lights parade tomorrow
The Public Workers Electric Light Parade will go through Chinatown and downtown tomorrow as part of the 22nd annual Honolulu City Lights celebration.
Honolulu City Lights displays draw hundreds of thousands of people to Honolulu Hale throughout December.
Forty-eight vehicles and 13 high school bands will participate in the parade starting at King and River streets at 6 p.m. The parade will continue along King Street and end at Kawaiahao Street. Firetrucks, police cars and an ambulance will be among the vehicles featured.
Afterward, the city vehicles adorned with electric lights and holiday decorations will be displayed until 8 p.m. along King Street in front of Honolulu Hale.
"After the parade, that's the unique thing: You get to see the vehicles up close. The kids really like that," said Edward Oi, parade coordinator. "The kids get to see the ambulance and talk to the firemen. It's really geared for the family and the kids."
Drivers should plan ahead for traffic delays, and parade-goers are encouraged to arrive before 5 p.m.
Parking is available in the Smith-Beretania parking garage on Beretania Street before Smith Street, or the Hale Pauahi Towers parking garage on Beretania near River Street.
For those attending the Hawaii Theatre, traffic controls will allow access from Beretania Street to the Marks Garage, Macy's and Chinatown Gateway parking lots.
