Silverswords hammer Knights in basketball
Chaminade defeated Carleton (Minn.) 90-67 last night in Division II men's basketball at McCabe Gym.
Zack Whiting had a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists for the Silverswords.
» Latoya Wily grabbed 18 rebounds and Artevia Wily scored 24 points to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii to an 82-66 women's basketball win over Hawaii Pacific at Laie.
» Brigham Young-Hawaii jumped into the Division II national men's basketball rankings after its 5-0 start.
The Seasiders are No. 17. They've defeated Cal State Stanislaus, Central Washington, Ft. Lewis (Colo.) and Oakland City (Ind.) twice so far.
Professionals fight back to win Burns Cup
The professional team fought back to beat the amateur team to win the Burns Cup 13-11 yesterday at the 24th annual Gov. John A. Burns Cup Challenge at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
The amateurs led 7-5 after Tuesday's first round. The pros won eight of the 12 individual matches yesterday to win it.
Overall, the pros lead the series 22-10 with one tie in 1983.
» Mauna Lani Resort appointed PGA golf pro Ross Birch to a newly created position of director of golf sales.
Birch will be responsible for generating new business opportunities for the resort's 36-hole Francis H. I'i Brown golf courses.
Birch held several executive positions at Waikoloa Beach Resort prior to joining Mauna Lani.
