Hawaii tied for No. 3 in MPSF poll
The Hawaii men's volleyball team was picked to finish in a tie for third with Pepperdine and UCLA in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation preseason coaches poll released yesterday.
The Warriors, the MPSF runner-up last season, received one first-place vote for 41 points.
The Waves also received a vote and 41 points, as did defending NCAA champion UCLA.
UC Irvine was the choice to repeat as the league champion, with 17 first-place votes. The Anteaters are followed by No. 2 Brigham Young, with the remaining three votes.
Hilo routed in first game of women's basketball
The UH-Hilo women's basketball team lost in its first game in the program's history, 100-38 to Northwest Nazarene at Nampa, Idaho, yesterday.
Sheila Azevedo led the Vulcans, who hit 18 of 60 shots from the field and committed 39 turnovers, with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Danielle Dwello scored 25 points for Northwest Nararene.
