Tesoro to sponsor Sunset on the Beach
The company will support other 2007 community events
Tesoro Hawaii will be the new sponsor of Sunset on the Beach events in Waikiki and five community Rediscover Oahu events in 2007, Mayor Mufi Hannemann announced yesterday.
"They have come forward in a true public-private partnership, recognizing that this is a great event that not only benefits our residents, but certainly our visitors," the mayor said.
Tesoro Hawaii's $65,000 sponsorship means that the Waikiki Improvement Association, which took over managing the program from the city last year, will be able to hold Sunset on the Beach one weekend a month for the next year.
"When the mayor asked if we'd consider this opportunity, it didn't take us long to decide that this was a great thing for us to do," said Chuck Snyder, Tesoro Hawaii's production manager. "In the coming weeks we'll be planning ways to take Sunset on the Beach to a new level, to infuse it with more excitement and energy."
The city holds Sunset on the Beach events on weekend evenings, showing free movies on a 30-foot screen at Queen's Beach in Waikiki.
Rediscover Oahu takes the Sunset on the Beach concept on the road to communities across the island.
