"Trouble in Paradise"
By Terrye Robins
Tate Publishing
$16.99 (to order:
www.tatepublishing.com)
Paradise in this case is Paradise, Okla., where mild-mannered schoolteacher Allison Kane seems to attract trouble and dead bodies. This propensity follows her to Hawaii for spring break, although the story is less about sleuthing than it is about her personal life -- with a heavy dose of Oahu travelogue. More in the series is promised when Kane returns to Hawaii for a summer teaching job.
"Let's Kanikapila"
By Michael Preston
Mutual Publishing
$18.95
The subtitle of this colorful music lesson is "Ten Steps to Learn 'Ukulele the Hawaiian Way," and it's compiled by an ukulele teacher with a profound respect for the instrument and its contribution to music. Clearly designed chord charts and songs take the newbie player from picking to two-part melodies. An accompanying CD includes 74 lessons and songs.
