KIF champion Waimea trips Hawaii Prep to advance to quarterfinals

Kauai Interscholastic Federation champion Waimea moved to the Division II quarterfinals of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Boys Volleyball State Championships last night at the Radford gym.
The Menehunes beat Hawaii Prep 25-21, 25-18 to set up a quarterfinal-match showdown tonight at 7 against second-seeded Hana at Radford High School.
That quarterfinal matchup pits two 9-0 teams.
Ka Makani dropped to 9-9 and plays in the consolation semifinals today at 4:30 p.m. against Konawaena at Radford.
Kalani 2, Seabury Hall 1
The Falcons (12-2) needed three games to down the Spartans 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 at Kekuhaupio Gym at Kamehameha.
Kalani advanced to a quarterfinal match against top-seeded Maryknoll (13-7) tonight at 7:30 at Kamehameha.
The Spartans (6-4) play against Honokaa in the consolation semifinals today at 4:30 p.m. at Kamehameha.
Aiea 2, Konawaena 0
Na Alii (9-5) stopped the Wildcats 25-20, 25-20 at Kamehameha.
The win moved Aiea into a quarterfinal showdown against fourth-seeded Hilo (12-5) tonight at 6 at Kamehameha.
Konawaena (10-6) dropped into the consolation bracket.
Mid Pacific 2, Honokaa 0
The Owls beat the Dragons 25-19, 25-20 in their tournament opener at Radford.
Mid-Pacific improved to 10-10, and Honokaa dropped to 13-5.
The Owls meet third-seeded Waianae (13-0) tonight at 7:30 in the quarterfinals at Radford.
The Dragons, who play against Hawaii Prep today in the consolation semifinals, are fighting to place fifth in the tournament.
The Division II tournament continues through Thursday's championship game at the Stan Sheriff Center at 6 p.m.
