Boy choir chooses new executive director
Jeff Cunningham has been named executive director of the Honolulu Boy Choir.
Cunningham, a former Navy officer now in the Naval Reserve, is the former executive director of the Allegro Children's Choir in Overland Park, Kan. He has a master's degree from Chaminade University and a bachelor's degree in music.
He takes over from Kane Kanetani.
Essay, artwork contest open to 4th-graders
Oahu Family and Community Education members are sponsoring an Essay and Artwork Contest for fourth-graders. This year's theme is trustworthiness. Students must submit an essay and draw a picture.
The contest is open to students in public and private or home schools and runs through Jan. 31. Call Mary Takeshita, 455-2740.
Award-winning artists host Big Isle workshop
Grammy and Hoku Award-winning musicians will host a week-long workshop on the Big Island at the Pahala Plantation House, Nov. 25 to Dec. 2.
Instructors include Keoki Kahamoku, George Kahamoku Jr., Ledward Kaapana, Sonny Lim, Cyril Pahinui, Herb Ohta Jr., Daniel Ho and Dennis and David Kamakahi.
Classes include beginning, intermediate and advanced slack-key guitar and ukulele.
The workshop finale includes a performance by the instructors at 1 p.m. Dec. 3.

Volunteers needed for Special Olympics
Special Olympics Hawaii is looking for volunteers for its Holiday Classic Sports Competition, to be held Dec. 1 and 3 at Hickam Air Force Base and Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe.
Positions are available in set-up, operations, sports competitions and tear-down. First-aid, especially physicians' support, is also needed.
