Kawaiaha'o Church to hold choral concert
Kawaiaha'o Church will present a free concert of Hawaiian sacred choral music Nov. 19 in the sanctuary.
The Kawaiaha'o Church Choir and Festival Choir, the Kawaiolaonapukanileo Vocal Ensemble and Halau Hula O Kawaiaha'o will perform in the 6 p.m. concert.
Singers who wish to participate must register by Monday. A registration form is available by e-mailing buddy@kawaiahao.org or visiting the Music and Performing Arts Department in the church basement. The $15 fee includes music packet, rehearsal by the staff and dinner. Rehearsal will begin at 1 p.m. Nov. 19.
Entries sought for essay contest
College students may win a cash prize of $1,000, $700 or $500 for writing an essay on "Creating Peace Across Boundaries."
The competition is sponsored by the Chaminade University Peace Program, created in memory of David Chappell, former University of Hawaii religion professor, who founded the Society for Buddhist-Christian Studies and was known for work in promoting understanding among diverse religions.
Each essay must be the work of two full-time college students of different genders, religions and ethnic background.
