Golden Eagles eliminate Seasiders
Cal State Los Angeles came from behind to defeat Brigham Young-Hawaii 23-30, 27-30, 30-23, 30-28, 17-15 yesterday in the NCAA II Pacific Regional Tournament at San Bernardino, Calif.
The loss eliminated the previously undefeated Seasiders from the tournament and ended their season at 20-1.
BYUH served for match point, leading 15-14 in Game 3, but the Golden Eagles (18-8) ) scored the last three points to clinch it.
Tuli Peters led the Seasiders with 23 kills. Noelle Filimoeatu added 17 kills, 10 digs and four blocks, and setter LeeAnn Mapu had 63 assists.
Tanya White put down 20 kills for Cal State Los Angeles.
Sharks top CaneFires in Hawaii Winter Baseball
Nyjer Morgan doubled and tripled to lead the Honolulu Sharks to a 6-2 victory over the West Oahu CaneFires in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Hans L'Orange Field last night.
Starter Hideki Asai threw five scorless innings and allowed five hits to earn the victory.
Tomotaka Sakaguchi went 2-for-4 and drove in both CaneFires runs.
» Duke Sardinha homered with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead the Waikiki BeachBoys over the North Shore Honu at Les Murakami Stadium.
Rick Vanden Hurk held the Honu hitless for five innings before Dustin Martin doubled off David Quinowski with two outs in the sixth.
