The Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped celebrated its 75th anniversary Wednesday with an open house. Rod McDonald, middle, who is blind and deaf, communicates through his interpreter, Maryann Nakamichi, left, using "finger spelling" to communicate what is being said to him. Here, Nakamichi was finger-spelling what McDonald's friend Dr. Heinz-Guenther Pink was saying. Pink, who is blind, called McDonald, who helped him when he became blind, his mentor. The library, located on Kapahulu Avenue, put out historical and informational displays, along with cake and food for guests. CLICK FOR LARGE
