Australian Consul-General John Quinn, center, was the genial host of a pre-screening reception for the Australian film, "Ten Canoes," as part of the Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival at the Hawaii Theatre Oct. 25. "Ten Canoes" is the first major Australian film in which the cast speaks an Aboriginal language throughout; it tells a fascinating story of life and death in ancient Australia. High-fashion designer Jeanie Chun was guest of honor at "La Grande Tradition," Hui Makaala's 37th Annual Scholarship Fund Luncheon and Fashion Show, at the Sheraton Waikiki on Oct. 22. The program featured performances by several Okinawan cultural organizations, as well as a formal fashion show introducing Chun's newest designs.
