Mayberry drives in 5 as CaneFires stop Sharks
John Mayberry had a home run and five RBIs to help the West Oahu CaneFires beat the Honolulu Sharks 8-1 in Hawaii Winter Baseball last night at Les Murakami Stadium.
Christian Garcia allowed only one run in five innings to get the win for the CaneFires.
» Mark Minicozzi hit his third home run of the season and drove in five runs as the Waikiki BeachBoys dropped the North Shore Honu 11-4 at Hans L'Orange Field.
UH men's volleyball tickets on sale
Tickets for the University of Hawaii men's volleyball team's exhibition matches against Long Beach State are now on sale at the Stan Sheriff Center box office and all UH ticket outlets.
The Warriors host the 49ers Thursday and Friday with two matches each day, at 4 and 7 p.m.
Hawaii-Hilo falls to NDNU
The University of Hawaii-Hilo women's volleyball team lost to Notre Dame de Namur, 27-30, 30-23, 30-21, 30-26 yesterday. The Argos (12-22, 1-12) garnered their first PacWest Conference victory with the win.
Taina Savage led the way for the Vulcans with 18 kills.
» Noelle Filimoeatu buried 16 kills and Christina Bobik added 10 as Brigham Young-Hawaii swept Dixie State 30-24, 30-28, 30-23 to remain undefeated at 19-0 last night.
Hawaii dives past UCSB
The University of Hawaii men's and women's swimming and diving teams each defeated UC Santa Barbara yesterday in their season openers at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The UH men knocked off the Gauchos, 114.5-108.5, while the Rainbow Wahine won 124-109.
Senior Claudia Barsi broke the school record in the 1,650 free for UH with a time of 16:41.23.
Grand Canyon dumps Chaminade
The Chaminade men's soccer team (0-15) was blanked by Grand Canyon, 5-0, yesterday in PacWest Conference play. David Hague and Tyler Turner scored twice apiece for the 'Lopes, while Valdi Malinkovic added a score.
» Grand Canyon was also successful against Chaminade (0-11-1) in women's soccer, shutting out the host Silverswords 7-0 yesterday.
» The Hawaii Pacific University men's soccer team fell to Notre Dame de Namur, 5-1, yesterday at Atherton Field in Kaneohe.
