The Kailua Public Library hosted "The Art of Presentation: Japanese-style Gift Wrapping" on Tuesday. Instructor Saori Sato of Kapiolani Community College focused on the crane wrap. Participants picked up their wrapping supplies, and Sato demonstrated the Awaji-musubi knot, a finishing touch that is appropriate for one-time, happy occasions, like weddings. Then she showed the group the initial folds of the crane. CLICK FOR LARGE

Workshop attendees Gail Kashiwabara, left, and Gina Carnazzo followed Sato's directions. It is important when tying the Awaji-musubi knot that the "arms" must point up to signify happiness, she said. CLICK FOR LARGE
