Punahou offers free science day

If space is your final frontier, you'll want to take advantage of the free activities Saturday at Punahou School.

The fifth annual Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery offers a chance to build Lego robots, and water bottle rockets, plus view planets from telescopes or take part in a science workshop.

NASA educator-astronaut Joseph Acoba will share his experiences with the international space station and astronaut training. The NASA Ames Research Center will make a presentation and a dozen exhibits will be set up on astronomy, robotics, energy and science.

Suited for fourth-graders and up, their parents and teachers.

Activities run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Case Middle School Building at Punahou. Acoba speaks at the 9 a.m. opening assembly and Hawaii's State Teacher of the Year, Sheri Kojima of Waiakea High School, will give a keynote address at the 1:15 p.m. general assembly. A Science Magic show ends the day.
