Perry, Price remain at top of radio pile
Perry and Price and KSSK-FM 92.3 are still the No. 1 morning team and No. 1 radio station among listeners 12 and older, according to the just-released Arbitron ratings for summer 2006.
Listening during the Oct. 15 earthquake did not factor in to these ratings, since the survey period ran from June 29 through Sept. 20.
The adult-contemporary format of KSSK-FM 92.3 clung to its No. 1 ranking with 11 share points, the only station to receive double-digit share points in the overall top 10.
It was followed by KRTR-FM 96.3, which also airs an adult-contemporary format and was No. 2 in the summer 2005 survey.
Traditional Hawaiian music on KINE-FM 105.1 and its younger sister station, KCCN-FM 100.3, nabbed third and fourth place, and KGMZ-FM 107.9's oldies maintained the fifth-place position it occupied last summer. KCCN moved up two notches this time, from No. 6 last summer, while KINE held its rank.
Among the morning shows, the big revenue-engines for radio stations, the simulcast morning team of Michael W. Perry and Larry Price reign supreme on KSSK-FM 92.3/AM 590, followed by Chris Reiser and "Sistah" Sherry on KRTR-FM 96.3, Bill "Billy V" Van Osdol on KINE-FM 1051., Lina Girl and "Pipi" on KCCN-FM 100.3. John Matthews and "The Kap'n" round out the top five.
There were some big on-air and off-air personnel changes during the period, but the biggest change that happens during the so-called summer "book" is that the universe of listeners changes. With school out, there are more younger listeners tuning in for longer periods of time, which often gives youth-oriented stations a ratings boost against stations geared toward grown-ups.
