Beach Boys blank Honu in HWB
Mark Minicozzi and Nate Schierholtz hit solo homers and four Waikiki pitchers held North Shore to six hits in the Beach Boys' 4-0 win in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game yesterday at Hans L'Orange Field.
Rodney Choy Foo of Kailua had two of the Honu's hits.
» Brian Bixler, Van Pope, Eric Nielsen and Clint Sammons all had two hits to lead the Honolulu Sharks to an 8-1 victory over the West Oahu CaneFires yesterday at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Sharks' Kanehisa Arime pitched eight innings, allowing five of the CaneFires' six hits, to improve to 3-0.
Weber, Heinemann advance in region tourney
Hawaii's Andreas Weber and Sascha Heinemann won matches yesterday to advance to the quarterfinals of the ITA Northwest Region Championships yesterday at Stanford, Calif.
Weber beat Cal's Eoin Heavey 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Heinemann beat Stanford's Richard Wire 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
In doubles, two UH teams advanced to the quarters -- Jeff Fitch and Heinemann along with Weber and Matt Seeberger.
