The state awarded 350 leases yesterday at Kekuhaupio Gym on the Kamehameha Schools Palama Campus for the East Kapolei 1 subdivision, and nearly 2,500 people showed up to see if they were chosen. The Kapolei development, which broke ground in August, is the largest project in DHHL's history, according to the state, and 403 single-family homes are planned.

Hundreds of people jammed the streets yesterday morning to run, walk, crawl and even dance at the 12th annual Komen Hawaii Race for the Cure at Kapiolani Park. Ten-year-old Tiana Velez, left, and her mother, Kimee, cheered as runners made their way down Monsarrat Avenue. The race was a benefit for the local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, which was established in 1999.
