Ho'okano top runner for Portland State
Kelena Ho'okano (Kamehameha '02) is the leading rusher for the 4-3 Portland State Vikings. The senior running back has gained 236 yards on 68 carries for a 3.5 average per carry. The 6 foot, 205-pounder is tied for the team touchdown lead with four.
Michael Vitousek, a 6-4, 205-pound senior defensive end from Hawaii Prep, led the Bowdoin defense with eight unassisted and three assisted tackles Saturday, but the Bears were shut out by Hamilton College 12-0. In four games this year, Vitousek has 19 solo and 10 assisted tackles. He also has broken up two passes.
Koa Aiwohi (Kamehameha-Hawaii '06) is the leading scorer for the 3-3 Menlo College Oaks with 20 points. The 5-10, 160-pound freshman kicker has made both field-goal attempts and 14 PATs.
Kekai Kealoha (Iolani '06), a 5-8, 150-pound freshman wide receiver for Menlo, has caught nine passes for 93 yards and one touchdown.
Asti Merino (Kamehameha '03) is Menlo's leading tackler with 25 solo stops and 22 assisted. Seven of the 5-10, 197-pound junior linebacker's tackles have been for a loss for a total of 41 yards.
Jacob Cadelinia (Campbell '02), a 6-0, 225-pound senior outside linebacker for Mesa State, is the Mavericks' second-leading tackler with 17 solo stops and 31 assisted. He has 5.5 tackles for loss.
Shon scores twice for Whitman
Jason Shon (University '05) scored his first two collegiate goals Sunday as the Whitman Missionaries (3-4-2) defeated Willamette 3-1 in a Northwest Conference soccer match.
The sophomore midfielder tied the score at 1-1 when he headed a ball from Stephen Phillips off a corner kick into the net at 44:29. Shon then put the Missionaries ahead 2-1 at 75:59 with his second goal. His effort earned him an NWC offensive player of the week honorable mention.
Tye Perdido (Seabury Hall '06) scored his second goal of the season Sunday to lift the Gonzaga Bulldogs (6-5-2, 3-3-1) to a 2-1 overtime victory over Portland in a West Coast Conference match. The freshman midfielder took a pass from John Reha and scored at 98:23.
All-Pioneer tourney honors for Chang
Alyssa Chang (Maryknoll '04) was named to the All-Pioneer Wild West Volleyball Tournament last weekend after helping Cal State East Bay go 4-0 and defeat Menlo College 31-29, 26-30, 30-26, 28-30, 15-10 in the championship match.
The junior setter has played in all 92 games for the 21-6 Pioneers. She has 511 assists in Cal State East Bay's two-setter system, and she's second on the team with 41 aces and third with 169 digs.
Tiffany Butac (Hawaii Baptist '03) led all players with 26 digs as Seattle Pacific (20-2) won its 23rd consecutive Great Northwest Athletic Conference match Saturday, 3-1 over Western Oregon.
The senior libero leads the Falcons, ranked No. 15 in the latest NCAA Division II poll, with 432 digs. Her 5.76 per game average is third best in the conference.
Lori Nakamura (Kamehameha '04), a junior outside hitter for Redlands, has put down 151 kills in 58 games, an average of 2.6 per game, both second best for the 14-6 Bulldogs. Dory Baga (University '05), a sophomore libero is third on the team with 130 digs in 52 games. Kelina Smith (Waiakea '06), a freshman libero/defensive specialist has 41 kills and 21 digs in 36 games.
