Korean designer’s show stars film fest celebs
Korean fashion designer Lidia Shin knows how to attract a crowd, and it starts with celebrities, so she's timed the debut of her 2007 collection to coincide with the Hawaii International Film Festival and its cast of many, including a handful of Korean soap and movie stars.
2007 Lidia Collection premiere, with guest celebrities Shin Hyun Joon, Tak Jae Hoon, Howl, Jung Jae Wook and Han Seung Ki:
Fashion show: 8 p.m. Saturday, with 7 p.m. dinner and 9 p.m. concert
Place: Sheraton Waikiki Hotel Molokai Ballroom
Tickets: $150, or $300 V.I.P.
Participating as models or entertainers will be Shin Hyun Joon ("Stairway to Heaven," "Rondo"), Tak Jae Hoon ("Barefoot, Gi Bong," "Marrying the Mafia II"), Howl ("Princess Hours"), Jung Jae Wook ("One Fine Day") and Han Seung Ki ("Lover").
As suggested by the show's "Fashion Fantasy" theme, Lidia shows four theatrical segments featuring white separates, suits, glittery ensembles and evening wear.
The designer got her start in the United States 20 years ago in Las Vegas, where she worked with another designer at Caesar's Palace for several years before branching out on her own.
She's maintained ties in Korea all along, and her first boutique opens there Nov. 20. Staging the show in Hawaii before Korea was one way to set herself apart from designers in Korea, she said through an interpreter, while picking up some advance buzz from Korean media already in town to cover the actors participating in HIFF.
The event will benefit HIFF, the University of Hawaii Apparel Product Design and Merchandising program, and Paul Mitchell's Ulupono Academy.
