2 Schofield soldiers die in northern Iraq combat
Two other soldiers are wounded in a gunbattle in Kirkuk
Two Schofield Barracks soldier were among five U.S. military personnel killed Sunday in Iraq.
A Schofield Barracks spokeswoman confirmed yesterday an Associated Press report that two soldiers assigned to 25th Infantry Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team were killed.
The news service said two other soldiers were wounded in the gunbattle that occurred in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, where the bulk of the nearly 7,500 soldiers from Wahiawa are stationed.
The death of the five U.S. military personnel raises to 56 the number of American soldiers, Marines and airmen killed during the first 15 days of the month.
At least 12 U.S. military personnel were killed in hostile incidents over the weekend. The identities of the 12 military personnel, including the two from the 25th Division, were not released.
This brings to six the number of soldiers in Schofield's 25th Infantry Division who have been killed since the unit arrived in Iraq last month.
