Film festival hunting, take 2
IT WASN'T long after last week's column hit print that a loyal reader wrote in to say that I had provided the wrong time for next week's Hawaii International Film Festival screening of "Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles."
Umm ... whoops. As it turns out, "Robotech" is screening at 4 p.m. on Oct. 28, not 7 p.m. as I wrote last week. My tag-team partner, Wilma J., has thwapped me several times with a giant paper fan as appropriate punishment.
Also worth noting -- but unmentioned last week due to a lack of space -- is the film festival's showcase of animation shorts. "World of Animation," screening Sunday at 4:45 p.m. and Oct. 29 at 12:30 p.m., features shorts from Japan as well as Hawaii, the mainland, the U.K. and Spain. That's also at the Regal Dole Cannery 18 Theaters.

Meeting roll call
» MangaBento: This group of anime- and manga-inspired artists will be meeting on Sunday and Oct. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Academy Art Center, 1111 Victoria St.
No specific room had been confirmed as of press time, but just talk to the guard on the first floor; he should be able to point you in the right direction. For more information, visit the online forums at mangabento. doomdrgn.com/phpBB2.
» Oahu Anime Explorer: Meets Oct. 28 from 6 to 10 p.m. at HMC Academy, 555 N. King St. And if that's not enough anime for you, the group is also planning several excursions during next week's film festival, as well as a special soiree for Halloween in Waikiki.
