Shuttle will serve Haleiwa
The bus will operate during the closure of the Anahulu Rainbow Bridge
The city will operate a special shuttle bus in Haleiwa while the Anahulu Rainbow Bridge is under repair starting Monday.
The bridge is scheduled to be closed for about 10 days.
TheBus Route 52 special shuttle will operate between Weed Junction and Haleiwa Boat Harbor. There will be no bus service on Kamehameha Highway from Haleiwa Road to the Waimea end of Joseph P. Leong Highway.
All transfers to and from TheBus Route 52 Wahiawa-Circle Island will be made at Weed Junction.
The special shuttle's hours of operation are 4:10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. weekdays and 5:30 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. weekends. Regular Route 52 buses arriving in Haleiwa after the shuttle stops operating will go into town through Weed Junction and turn around at the boat harbor.
Bus riders headed for Haleiwa Beach Park can get off the shuttle at the boat harbor and walk across the bridge to the park because the bridge will remain open to pedestrians; or they can get off the Route 52 Wahiawa-Circle Island bus at temporary stops at the north end of town at the Kamehameha-Joseph P. Leong junction and walk south on Kamehameha Highway to get to the park.
The city is closing the bridge to repair leaks on the deck. The repair crews will work every day between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic until the repairs are completed.
Motorists traveling south on Kamehameha Highway will be diverted onto Joseph P. Leong Highway. A message board will give them advance warning of the detour and that they will have to use Weed Junction to get into Haleiwa.
The city has distributed fliers informing people about the bridge closure, and area businesses have been reminding customers they might have to take a different route to get into town.
