Garbin on top of Oregon's points list
NICOLE Garbin (Baldwin '01) is making the most of her sixth year of eligibility with the Oregon Ducks women's soccer team.
Last Friday the senior striker scored both goals as Oregon upset No. 24 Arizona 2-1. That gave Garbin Oregon's all-time points lead with 71 on 28 goals and 15 assists. She passed Chalise Baysa, who was born on Kauai, and scored 31 goals and had seven assists for 69 points from 1998 to 2001.
Garbin, who took a season-high seven shots, then scored the lone goal Sunday when the Ducks (8-5 overall, 2-0 league) blanked Arizona State 1-0 to complete the first-ever Pac-10 road sweep. It was her seventh goal of the season and extended her career, game-winning goal mark to 18.
Garbin needs three more goals to tie her single-season record set last year and to pass Baysa's career record.

» Lizzy Carlson (Punahou '06) scored her fifth goal in just her seventh match in the Denver Pioneers 4-1 victory over South Alabama on Oct. 6. The freshman striker, who also has two assists, is tied with three teammates for the team goal-scoring lead. The Pioneers (9-2-1 overall) lead the Sun Belt Conference with a 5-0 mark.
» Caycie Gusman (Kamehameha '06) scored her first collegiate goal on Oct. 4. The freshman striker headed home a corner kick at 69:19 from Gina DeMaio for the match-winning goal. It was the Rutgers Scarlet Knights' (11-2-1) first score in a 2-0 win over Princeton. Gusman has played in all 14 matches. The goal came on her ninth shot of the season.
» Jen Loo (Mililani '03), a senior defender, set up the match-winning goal in overtime last Saturday with a long free kick from just inside the midfield line that floated into the penalty box. Chantel Kim headed the ball home at 95:30 to give Idaho State (5-7-0) a 1-0 Big West Conference win over Sacramento State. It was Loo's first assist this year.
» Max Bowman (Honokaa) converted a penalty kick at 84:06 on Sept. 27 for the junior midfielder's first goal of the year. It was the eighth score for the Redlands Bulldogs in an 8-0 win over the Whittier Poets.
